News Gets Indian Flag Raised. Populist ‘Victory’ of the Hindu Nationalists, Anti-secularists and Fascists

Indian Hindu nationalist. The term is not new. From the beginning of history, a section of Hindu leaders and thinkers have been known by the same epithet. The current time is not any different. Today there are groups in India that are making noises about Hindu nationalist movements and justifying them. It is interesting to see the pro-Hindu movement that is attracting the attention of the international media. The BJP’s victory is expected to become a blow to the Congress party. It is also expected that the BJP will be able to extend the same kind of advantage in the other two Hindi speaking states of the north, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh. This would mean a whole new chapter in the history of Indian politics.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is being considered a Hindu nationalist, certainly had his hands full during the campaigning in UP. Modi’s Hindu nationalist parties had to face the heat in UP. And in fact, there were fears that they would suffer a heavy defeat in the state. However, they were successful in raising Hindu emotions. An increase in the number of Hindu temples and pilgrim centres has been cited as the reason for the increase in Hindu votes.

The Hindu nationalists make the following arguments on why this victory is for them:

Hindus in India are the majority population, hence they are destined to dominate Indian politics

Hindus never lost their dominance in India, they just suffered setbacks

Anti-Hindu forces and Muslim opponents in India have always hounded and undermined Hindu nationalists

The opposition parties are controlled by anti-Hindu forces. The Congress party is led by the so called secularists, while the parties led by Muslim leaders are also anti-Hindu

Hindu nationalists are helping Indian soldiers to defeat the Pakistanis

Hindus are helping Indian soldiers to defeat Pakistan

Hindus and Indian soldiers have been working together in the past

The BJP and Modi have been credited with bringing back Hindu soldiers who had been captured by Pakistanis in 1971, when India and Pakistan had gone to war.

Modi and his Hindutva parties have also been successful in presenting Hindu soldiers who had been captured by Pakistanis as fighters against Muslim Pakistan. The Hindutva leaders say that Muslim Pakistanis are enemies of Hindus and support terrorism.
