Exposed fastener metal roof panels are the material of choice for affordable roofing options on commercial, residential, and agricultural buildings. Color-matched panels are installed over existing shingle decks for a seamless look. These panels are the perfect solution for a durable, eco-friendly roofing option that favors cost and easy installation.
Concealed Fastener metal roof panels are an alternative that offers more durability and a sleek design. For aesthetic reasons, concealed fastener panels are more common in residential buildings. These panels are not only stronger, but the concealed design of the fasteners leads to less maintenance over the life of the roof.
Metal roofing offers a fairly long list of benefits. When compared to traditional single roofs, they are hands-down more durable. Metal roofs can last up to 50 or 60 years, while a shingle roof will need to be replaced in about half of that time. And when it is time to replace them, the metal panels are recyclable, which contributes less material to landfills.
Metal roofs are customizable in a wide selection of colors and materials range from minimalistic and cost-effective to sleek and modern. As the residential sector has adopted metal roofing for environmental reasons, newer decorative styles are becoming available as well.
Metal roofs are also more sustainable in other ways. As the cost of utilities continues to rise and we all try a little harder to lessen our impact on the environment, energy-efficient building materials become much more important. Depending on the region and personal habits, a metal roof on a residential home can decrease energy bills by up to 40%. Reflective metal roofing can reduce air temperatures in a building by an average of 12 degrees, lowering cooling costs.
Aluminum is lightweight, durable, and non-corrosive. It is used widely across the US, and holds up especially well in coastal regions. Copper roofing is extremely durable and expensive. It is suitable for most environments but is not widely used due to the price. Tin is no longer used in modern metal roofing; however, the term has stuck around. Today, a tin roof refers to a steel roof.

Metal roofing panels have been a workhorse in the construction industry since the turn of the century. Initially, small pieces of copper and zinc were hand formed by craftsman. The slow and manual process created beautiful but often price prohibitive roofs.
This advancement made metal roofing both durable and affordable. The only piece left of the puzzle was the appearance. In the early days, roll formed panels had a simple rounded corrugation and finish options were limited at best. But how the industry has changed! Todays savvy consumers can choose from multiple profiles, paint systems, substrates and extensive color selections. Thanks to these advances, metal roofing is one of the most cost effective, beautiful and environmentally friendly roofing choices available.
At McElroy Metal, we're proud to have one of the most robust roofing product lines in the industry. From exposed fastened to standing seam and even insulated metal roofing systems, we've got you covered.
A standing seam roof system, also classified as concealed fastener panels, utilizes a series of adjoining panels that are connected by raised seams (or vertical legs). Seam heights vary, but are typically 1 to 2 inches tall and allow the panels to snap together without any exposed fasteners. In addition to providing a sleek, modern look, standing seam roofs allow panels to expand and contract with changing temperatures, helping them to last longer and cause less wear and tear on the roof deck. For residential applications, most standing seam panels snap together while others require mechanical seaming. Mechanical seamed panels provide greater strength and wind uplift capabilities.
Meridian has it all! An aesthetically pleasing, snap-together, standing seam roof panel that is economical and easy to install. With no need for clips, Meridian panels are simply attached to the roof deck with pancake head fasteners. Always an excellent choice!
138T and 238T systems are classified as symmetrical standing seam systems and offer many advantages over traditional standing seam panels. Due to the symmetrical standing seams, individual panels can be removed and replaced in the event of damage. McElroy Metal's Shingle Recover System features the 138T panel and is an economical and energy efficient method to recover an existing shingle roof.
Medallion I and Medallion II are older models of architectural standing seam systems and utilize separate batten caps that are installed over adjoining roofing panels. Medallion I features a narrow batten cap while Medallion II features a wider cap. Both Medallion systems are installed over solid decking. These panels are better suited for application like eyebrows over windows or other accent installations. For most homeowners, newer standing seam models such as Meridian or Medallion-Lok are a better option in terms of weather resistance and performance.
Mega-Rib is a 7.2 exposed fastener panel that provides optimum strength and spanning capabilities. Mega-Rib is a metal roof and wall panel that is equally well suited for industrial and commercial applications.
Combining the aesthetic look and curb appeal of traditional shingles, clay tile, cedar shake, and slate with all the performance benefits of metal, these systems are a popular option for homeowners looking for a fast, easy, and affordable roofing solution that simulates the appearance of other roofing materials. The benefit to the homeowner is the desired visual appearance plus all the benefits of metal roofing.
McElroy Metal has a patented 238T frameless Metal-Over-Metal recover option that provides a low cost recover solution over existing exposed fastened panels. This system utilizes McElroy's easily repairable symmetrical 238T standing seam panel while providing a long-term solution to existing metal roofs that have completed their service life at a cost that is competitive with single-ply recover and will last two (2) to four (4) times longer.
